Which team will you be joining?

The merchant experience is only as good as the platform behind it — and most of that experience is the interface itself.

The Account Experience team builds and owns the full platform merchants use to interact with Primer — from initial setup through to day-to-day operations, and increasingly through Primer AI Companion as a first-class interface. The team spans several connected areas: Primer Companion, Merchant Account Setup, Monitors, Workflows, Auditing, and the cross-cutting concerns that keep the whole merchant experience cohesive.

As Staff Engineer you’ll set front-end technical direction across these areas, not within a single one. You’ll work across 2-3 teams, partner with multiple stakeholders, and stay hands-on in the implementation that matters most. The team runs a ‘you build it, you own it’ model: engineers own their work from design through to production.

The stack includes TypeScript, React, and modern front-end tooling, sitting on top of services in Python, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

What will you be doing?

• Setting and driving front-end technical strategy across the Account Experience teams, from architecture and component-system decisions through to hands-on implementation where it counts

• Owning the architecture of a complex, data-dense merchant platform — the patterns, state management, and performance characteristics that hold up as the surface area grows

• Shaping how Primer AI Companion matures as a first-class merchant interface, including the front-end architecture that makes a conversational surface feel native to the platform

What we’re looking for

• Demonstrable experience operating at staff or principal level: setting front-end technical direction across multiple teams, not just within one

• Deep front-end engineering expertise with TypeScript and React, and a track record of architecting complex, long-lived web applications

• Real fluency in the things that separate good front-end from great: state management at scale, performance, accessibility, and component-system design

• The kind of judgment that earns trust fast — engineers follow your technical lead because you’re right, not because of your title

• Enough comfort across the stack to reason about the APIs and services your front-end depends on, and to partner with backend engineers as an equal

Which team will you be joining?

The merchant experience is only as good as the platform behind it — and most of that experience is the interface itself.

The Account Experience team builds and owns the full platform merchants use to interact with Primer — from initial setup through to day-to-day operations, and increasingly through Primer AI Companion as a first-class interface. The team spans several connected areas: Primer Companion, Merchant Account Setup, Monitors, Workflows, Auditing, and the cross-cutting concerns that keep the whole merchant experience cohesive.

As Staff Engineer you’ll set front-end technical direction across these areas, not within a single one. You’ll work across 2-3 teams, partner with multiple stakeholders, and stay hands-on in the implementation that matters most. The team runs a ‘you build it, you own it’ model: engineers own their work from design through to production.

The stack includes TypeScript, React, and modern front-end tooling, sitting on top of services in Python, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

What will you be doing?

• Setting and driving front-end technical strategy across the Account Experience teams, from architecture and component-system decisions through to hands-on implementation where it counts

• Owning the architecture of a complex, data-dense merchant platform — the patterns, state management, and performance characteristics that hold up as the surface area grows

• Shaping how Primer AI Companion matures as a first-class merchant interface, including the front-end architecture that makes a conversational surface feel native to the platform

• Holding the experience coherent across Account Setup, Monitors, Workflows, and Auditing — building the shared component and design-system foundations that stop the areas drifting apart

• Leading engineers across teams without direct authority, through code, design reviews, and technical mentorship that raises the front-end bar around you

• Owning the things that are easy to neglect: accessibility, performance budgets, and front-end observability as first-class concerns, not afterthoughts

• Partnering with Product and Design, and with backend engineers across teams, to shape decisions where front-end constraints or opportunities are material

What we’re looking for

• Demonstrable experience operating at staff or principal level: setting front-end technical direction across multiple teams, not just within one

• Deep front-end engineering expertise with TypeScript and React, and a track record of architecting complex, long-lived web applications

• Real fluency in the things that separate good front-end from great: state management at scale, performance, accessibility, and component-system design

• The kind of judgment that earns trust fast — engineers follow your technical lead because you’re right, not because of your title

• Enough comfort across the stack to reason about the APIs and services your front-end depends on, and to partner with backend engineers as an equal

• Strong written and verbal communication, including making complex technical decisions legible to Product, Design, and non-technical stakeholders

• Comfort working in payments, fintech, or platform contexts is welcome, though depth of engineering matters more than the specific industry

About the role

We’re hiring a Staff ML Engineer as one of the founding engineers on Intelligence Org. You’ll work directly with the team’s first engineers and manager to figure out what to build, how to build it, and how it fits into the broader Docker platform. This is a hands-on builder role with staff-level scope: you’ll shape technical direction, ship the first versions of intelligence capabilities into customer hands, and grow the foundations (data, evaluation, infrastructure) the team will rely on as it scales.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, evaluate, and ship ML systems that power governance and security capabilities, starting with problems like prompt injection detection, behavioral anomaly detection, trust scoring, and policy recommendations.

• Build the supporting infrastructure: data pipelines, feature stores, model serving, evaluation harnesses, and the feedback loops that make iteration fast.

• Make pragmatic build-vs-buy calls. Use frontier models, off-the-shelf tooling, and managed services to move quickly; invest in custom systems where they create durable advantage.

• Set technical direction for the team’s ML work. Own the architecture, evaluation methodology, model lifecycle, and the bar for shipping.

Qualifications

• 8+ yearsof professional, hands-on, full-time software engineering experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering.

• You’ve built and owned the systems around ML models, i.e. data pipelines, serving, evaluation, monitoring etc. and have shipped customer-facing products end to end.

• You use modern AI tools fluently in your day-to-day work and have a sharp instinct for when frontier models can replace traditional ML, when they can’t, and when to combine the two.

• Experience with LLM-based systems in production - evaluation, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, retrieval, guardrails, agent frameworks.

• Familiarity with the agent / MCP ecosystem.

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on our Self-Hosted team, you will own the architecture of SentinelOne’s self-hosted (on-prem) Endpoint Protection platform across multiple teams — a distributed, mission-critical security system deployed inside customer-controlled enterprise, government, and regulated environments. You will set the standard for how the platform achieves high availability, scalability, and reliability on infrastructure we don’t operate ourselves, and influence the engineering roadmap for the product line. You are a recognized subject-matter expert who reviews and elevates the work of other senior engineers and drives complex, cross-team designs to completion.

What Will You Do?

Primary responsibilities include:

• Own and evolve the architecture of the self-hosted platform across multiple teams — backend services, data pipelines, control logic, and the deployment topology shipped to customers (containerized microservices on bare metal, delivered as an appliance/OVA) — and implement improvements to existing architecture.
• Set the standard for high availability and resilience in customer-controlled deployments: clustering, replication, failover, consensus/leader election, and graceful degradation across single-node and multi-node topologies, and drive infrastructure cost analysis and optimization.
• Define scalability and capacity-planning strategies that hold across a wide range of customer scale and hardware, and establish frameworks for performance, observability, and operational excellence in constrained and air-gapped environments.
• Lead the translation of SaaS/cloud-native capabilities into on-prem architecture, refine vaguely specified complex requirements into robust, future-proof end-to-end designs, and define coding patterns and standards that span multiple teams.
• Influence the engineering roadmap, drive medium-to-large initiatives that span teams, mentor staff and senior engineers, and act as a cross-team technical authority sought out to review the work of others.

What Skills and Knowledge Will You Bring?

Ideal candidates will have:

• A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience, with roughly 8+ years of related experience and deep hands-on expertise in Go and/or Python across technologies such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Docker, and Linux.
• Extensive, proven experience designing and delivering on-prem / self-hosted / customer-deployed software, including packaging and lifecycle for customer-controlled environments (appliance/OVA, bare-metal or containerized deployments, upgrades, and air-gapped or restricted networks).
• A strong track record architecting distributed systems for high availability and fault tolerance in on-prem / customer-controlled deployments — replication, clustering, failover, consensus/leader election — and being recognized as a subject-matter expert in one or more of these areas.
• Deep command of scalability and performance in on-prem deployments: horizontal/vertical scaling, sharding/partitioning, load balancing, capacity planning, and evaluating technology trade-offs and costs across customer-controlled hardware and environments.
• The ability to take vaguely specified, complex requirements and create efficient, robust, future-proof end-to-end designs across teams; experience influencing a roadmap and leading multi-team designs; and excellent communication and mentoring skills. Experience with security products is a strong advantage.

Job Responsibilities

• Define and own the system architecture strategy impacting multiple engineering teams, establishing standards and patterns that scale across the HeartFlow platform
• Technical Strategy: Partner with Product, Engineering, and executive leadership to translate organizational goals into multi-year architectural roadmaps and actionable work items.
• Define, enforce, and evolve engineering best practices, tooling standards, and architecture patterns.

Qualifications required

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

• Experience: 15+ years of relevant industry experience, including significant time in senior or staff-level roles with cross-team architectural responsibility

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Deep expertise across system design, cloud-native architectures, and distributed systems; broad familiarity with backend technologies (e.g., Python, Java), database technologies (SQL, NoSQL), and cloud platforms (AWS)

• Project Experience:

  • Strong expertise in distributed systems and microservices architecture
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering large-scale, secure distributed systems and platform architectures with measurable cross-team impact

The Observability Platform team is seeking a Senior Manager of Engineering to build and lead a centralized platform capability that gives Smartsheet full-stack visibility into our most complex and consequential systems. This role owns the engineering strategy and execution for a dedicated platform consolidating multiple platforms, serving engineering teams across the company, including the Data & AI Platform, Commerce, and Infrastructure pillars.

You will lead a team based with strategic ownership spanning metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, log analytics, SLO/SLA management, and AI/ML observability integrations tied to SmartAssist and our agentic AI workstreams on Amazon Bedrock and MLflow. This is a high-leverage, high-visibility role at the intersection of platform reliability and AI-native engineering.

You Will:

Team & Platform Leadership

• Lead a team of engineers focused on observability platform engineering, driving build-out of a unified observability stack used by all engineering teams at Smartsheet.
• Own and evolve the platform’s technical roadmap, consolidating multiple tooling platforms, and AI observability tooling into a coherent, scalable capability.
• Define platform standards, contribute to architectural direction, and ensure the team operates with engineering rigor and strong operational habits.
• Build and scale the team, hiring senior engineers and establishing effective global practices across distributed stakeholders.

Observability Engineering

• Lead design and delivery of centralized observability infrastructure covering metrics pipelines, distributed tracing, alerting frameworks, and log analytics across Smartsheet services.
• Drive SLO/SLA definition and tooling for platform-wide reliability visibility, partnering closely with infrastructure, platform engineering, and on-call teams.
• Own governance including instrumentation standards, cost optimization, and rollout of advanced capabilities such as APM, RUM, and custom dashboards.
• Lead architecture, scaling, and operational practices for log analytics across high-throughput production workloads.
• Establish shared observability libraries, agents, and SDKs that reduce instrumentation burden for application engineering teams.

AI Observability

• Build and maintain AI/ML observability integrations in partnership with the AI Platform team.
• Partner with the Data & AI Platform team to integrate MLflow tracing, Inference Tables, and LLM-as-judge evaluation pipelines into the observability stack.
• Develop dashboards and alerting for agentic AI workloads, including latency, token consumption, error rates, and evaluation metric drift.
• Contribute to the AI governance and cost observability program, providing telemetry for model usage, cost attribution, and compliance reporting.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Execution

• Serve as the primary engineering partner for platform consumers across Data & AI, Commerce, Infrastructure, and Security teams, ensuring observability needs are met across workstreams.
• Lead complex, cross-functional observability projects with high ambiguity, managing delivery risk, communicating clearly to senior stakeholders, and building alignment across teams.
• Partner with delivery partners to coordinate instrumentation across platform modernization and migration workstreams
• Contribute to quarterly and annual platform goals, reporting on key reliability and observability metrics to engineering leadership.
• Communicate platform status, risks, and roadmap progress to Engineering leadership and above audiences in a clear, executive-ready format.

Operational Excellence

• Embed on-call culture and incident management discipline into the team, ensuring clear runbooks, fast MTTR, and post-incident learning loops.
• Drive cost governance for observability tooling, including spend optimization and efficient resource management.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering practices within the team, applying tooling and automation to reduce toil and accelerate delivery.

You Have:

Required

• 10+ years of software or platform engineering experience, with strong fundamentals in distributed systems, infrastructure, and backend services.
• 3 years of engineering management experience, including direct team building, performance management, and cross-functional delivery ownership.
• Deep hands-on expertise with observability tooling: Datadog (APM, metrics, logs, alerting), OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry or equivalent), and SLO/SLA management at scale.
• Proven experience operating observability platforms for high-availability, high-throughput production environments.
• Experience building and scaling engineering teams in distributed or international focus
• Strong execution track record on complex, cross-functional infrastructure programs with high ambiguity.
• Clear, direct communication (written and verbal) with both technical and non-technical audiences, including leadership and executive stakeholders.
• Proactive risk identification and status communication without prompting.
• Experience managing vendors, external delivery partners, and third-party integrations in a platform context.

Preferred

• Hands-on experience with AI/ML observability: MLflow tracing, LLM evaluation pipelines, or observability for agentic AI systems.
• Familiarity with Amazon Bedrock, ECS Fargate, or LangGraph-based multi-agent architectures.
• Experience with cloud cost governance and FinOps practices for observability tooling
• Exposure to data platform observability and data quality monitoring in a lakehouse context
• Experience establishing internal developer platforms, shared libraries, or platform-as-a-service offerings for application teams.
• Prior work in SaaS environments with enterprise compliance requirements (SOC 2, FedRAMP, HIPAA).
